Oral Cancer Screening

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer is unfortunately very prevalent in India, mainly due to the use of tobacco in various forms. At Srinivasam Dental, the entire team is trained on how to examine the entire mouth for any possible signs of oral cancer.

Early detection and treatment of oral cancer leads to very good success and a cancer free lifetime. Do not fear the treatment; fear the delay in diagnosis – so get checked as soon as you can if you have a non-healing mouth ulcer, sharp tooth, sharp prosthesis like a denture, or a family or personal history of oral cancer.

We do not charge for oral cancer screening and extend this service complimentary to all our patients. Thus there is no cost for oral cancer screening at Srinivasam Dental.

The Oral Cancer Screening Process

Consultation

Step 1

A clinical and radiographic examination forms the essential components of the initial screening.

Treatment Planning

Step 2

A suspicious area, if detected, will require a biopsy. This biopsy specimen will be sent to a pathology lab for further analysis.

Final Smile

Step 3

In a few days, the pathology lab will help us arrive at a diagnosis, at which point the team will discuss further management with you and your family.

Who Should Get Screened?

Oral cancer screening is recommended for adults, especially those who use tobacco products, consume alcohol frequently, or have a family history of cancer. Individuals exposed to excessive sunlight (risk of lip cancer) or those with persistent oral sores should also undergo regular screening. However, even individuals without risk factors can benefit from routine examinations.

Signs to Watch For

Symptoms that may require immediate attention include persistent mouth sores, unexplained bleeding, difficulty swallowing, numbness in the mouth, thickened patches inside the cheeks, or changes in voice. Any unusual change lasting more than two weeks should be evaluated by a dental professional.

The Importance of Early Detection

Regular oral cancer screenings play a vital role in protecting overall health. When detected early, oral cancer is highly treatable. Including screening as part of routine dental check-ups ensures peace of mind and supports long-term well-being.
